Final Frontier Trader Design

AI Design

The design of the AI should be done with consideration for levels of intelligence. For now, we will say there are five levels, Robotic, Low, Medium, High, and Semi.

- Robotic Intelligence -

This kind of intelligence will belong to ships that are unmanned. Within this level, we may wan to have sublevels, for more sophisticated patrol ships and such. This kind of intelligence will generally attack when someone is in range who is not an ally, or who is an enemy (the two are different, one species may attack all but confirmed allies, and another may simply attack all those who are NOT established enemies).

- Low Level Intelligence -

This kind of intelligence will be for a more inexperienced person or crew on a ship. All Low, Medium, and High level intelligences will have the option to flee by means of warp (if possible) to avoid destruction. This will be dependant on their aggressiveness (high aggressiveness meaning they are less likely to flee), proximity to help, and the level of intelligence. Low Level intelligence is less likely to flee until getting a bad beating, because of either youth (more aggressiveness) or not being able to tell when would be a good time to leave to avoid destruction. If the warp drive is disabled, they cannot leave this way. These ships will generally fire if you are near and seen as a threat. All manned vessels will have the opportunity to make a distress call. Low Level intelligence ships may possibly not respond to distress calls unless they have numbers or are ordered to by their people.

- Medium Level Intelligence -

This kind of intelligence will be for a more experienced person or crew on a ship. All Low, Medium, and High level intelligences will have the option to flee by means of warp (if possible) to avoid destruction. See Low Level Intelligence for more information on this. Medium Level Intelligent ships may possibly not fire on you unless fired upon, unless their species is highly aggressive or the mission is to capture or destroy you for that ship. These ships generally have better ways to evade fire, and shoot more accurately. All manned vessels will have the opportunity to make a distress call. Medium Level intelligence ships may possibly not respond to distress calls unless they are ordered to by their people.

- High Level Intelligence -

This kind of intelligence will be for a MUCH more experienced person or crew on a ship. All Low, Medium, and High level intelligences will have the option to flee by means of warp (if possible) to avoid destruction. See Low Level Intelligence for more information on this. High Level Intelligent ships will generally not fire on you unless fired upon, unless their species is highly aggressive or the mission is to capture or destroy you for that ship. These ships have the BEST ways to evade fire, and they shoot with a high degree of accuracy. All manned vessels will have the opportunity to make a distress call. High Level intelligence ships always respond to distress calls unless ordered NOT to by their people.

- Semi Intelligence -

This kind of intelligence will be for a fleet ship. These ships are ships that you train on. These fleet ships go on missions and you are along to control only one part of the ship. This type of training helps assist one in learning to hone particular skills. For example, you are the weapons officer on the ship. This means you control ONLY weapons, but you have full control. All other aspects are controlled by the computer according to another intelligence level (Medium and High only). If you fire on something or someone you shouldn't have, that may go against your record in that fleet and the fleet's allies, but if you perform successfully, you may be decorated, promoted, or rewarded in some way. The chances of a greater reward than what is stated for completion of the mission at the outset is performing exceptionally above a certain accuracy rating (for weapons). For controlling the propulsion, you may be graded on time versus drain on energy (so you don't just go max warp all the time), or science officers (scanning) may be graded on findings or speed in scanning. This kind of training and grading will be discussed in detail in Mission and Fleet Design.

This is the basic AI design. If you wish to contribute, email TomT64.
